Category: Zone BBS Suggestions and Feedback
If you make a topic you should have the right to delete said topic, along with any of your posts.
I agree; I hope this can/will be implemented at some point.
I third this. It's only right to let us have the ability to edit or delete what we say. Most other online fora allow it, and while using that to achieve it here would be a logical fallacy, it still can't be denied that this is not a novel idea.
This has been brought up many times in the past, and the answer is always no.
Becky is right. There are numerous topics with this same suggestion. Besides, if you delete something, what if whatever you deleted was information that someone else could later use to help themselves? This is particularly true when dealing with the daily living category or the geek's are us category. Besides, if you post stuff you are later unhappy with, that's the choice you made when you orriginally posted it. What it boils down to on this site at least is that you're responsable for whatever you post, so you should use this wisely. Also remember that the boards can be searched on Google. Believe me, there are a few things I'd wished hadn't been posted by me a long time ago, but that's just how it is. Life goes on...
At least your username is the only thing a person can publicly see, unless you reveal your name in your profile, and have it available publicly. Personally, I don't think I will ever reveal my last name in my zone profile, just for the sake of privacy. I'm okay revealing my first name, since it's so common.
As for being able to delete topics, I don't think you should be able to remove individual posts in said topic, because things will start not to make sense. however, I do think you should be able to remove your own topics. I'm sure this won't change anything, so I'm just stating my opinion.
This site is unique in that capacity: Facebook and other places let you remove stuff, so I guess the thing to remember is ... this place ain't Facebook.
I don't think it's safe for anyone to give out their last name online, unless they're purchasing something from a site that they trust or doing something of that nature. Same goes with your address.
The point is if I made something that I don't want I have a right to delete it. Facebook yes you can delete your posts, but you can delete your posts, and topics on many other like sites like this. We have a right to delete things we don't like, or want there any more.
firstly, you don't have the "right" to delete your posts, since once you post something on a forum such as this one, copyright law dictates that what you print becomes the property of the site in question.
Even on a site such as facebook, while you might be able to delete a post from your wall, it's still backed up and saved somewhere - once you put something on the internet you lose the ability to have control over it.
Secondly, being able to delete posts would just open up the boards to abuse, and a new he said, she said culture where people could essentially abuse others and then deny all knowledge once they'd edited/deleted their posts.
So I could post a board topic saying "I think scott is a real bastard and I hate him," start a massive flame war on the boards, and then delete my post at a crucial moment, or edit it to make it look as if I never said anything of the sort. And only those that saw it would know, those that didn't wouldn't, and it would just create more drama on the site than already exists.
I post on lots of forums and I've never encountered one where you can delete your posts or topics, I've come across fora where you can edit your posts within a certain time range, but then a stamp is added to the bottom of the topic saying that it was edited at x time... This is not facebook.
<disclaimer> love ya really scott. :)
No, this place certainly isn't facebook, and to be frank, it gets a little annoying when people ask for more facebook like features. I understand people wanting to have more games, or...whatever, and I do like some of the suggestions, but Leo Guardian said it: this place ain't facebook.
Agreed with clair here, the feature would just get abused. Fact is a good 75 percent of the zone population or more isn't mature/responsible enough to make use of this feature. Only way it would be smart to doo this is with an edit history, so everyone could see the changes made. But then that would ruen the point.
I agree with Claire and post 6...and now that I think about it: This place ain't facebook...all I ask of this site is that it becomes better than facebook.
Now, I know that it is almost impossible, but whatever.
At least a request to have a topic deleted cause there is just some shit I don't want to see any more, and I'm sure there is one thing everyone on here would like to see go away. So before you say this isn't facebook or such and such remember they got to where they are today for being the best and having good features like this. I'm sure this is one topic or post you want gone.
Believe me, Facebook didn't become a great site because they let people delete their posts. That's like saying farting cures blue balls. Trust me, it doesn't, and facebook didn't. LOL.
Frankly, I'm glad posts aren't deleted. There is enough personality ingeneering that goes on online as it is. As for me being a bastard, that's old news. :P
Jeff, if you like facebook so damn much, why not just stay off the zone and spend all your time on facebook.
I don't get why new people come on here and then spend all their time making suggestions for making it more like facebook or like some other site they enjoy. Why not just let the zone be the zone and visit those other sites you like so much more.
Yes, there is at least one post we've all made I'm sure we all regret, but to say it's our right to be able to delete it? I don't know. I think it's a privilage. and, there are instances where CL's will remove topics if legal matters become involved. yes, I'm sure a lot of you know exactly what I'm talking about here.
@Post 16 because you and I know there are questions cough cough for the blind that can't be answered as quickly on facebook. I rarely come on here as it is, but if I need a question answered about accessible devices and what not I come on here. @15 No they didn't make them that great, but the surtently played a part in making them easy and user frendly. Its just something I would like to see added agree or disagree, but don't go saying I want this like facebook, and I want the zone to be facebook cause I don't. Its just what I thought it was a good idea. Onestly I don't even know where you got facebook in your minds if I was talking about topics.
Personally I don't necessarily mind suggestions, but it'd be nice if people would do a search and see if something has been suggested before.
that, I definitely agree with.
I think you should have the right to delete your own topics, but not individual posts, otherwise it just wouldn't make sense.
yeah. Exactly what I was trying to say before. I mean, those who say the feature would be abused definitely have a point. I guess....just be very careful what you post, and where you post it. Luckily, the things I regret are just embarrassing, not harmful to anyone, but...still. I can see both sides of the coin for sure.
Yeah sorry I did fale to look to see if it was suggested before that was my bad. Okay yes that would make sence to delete your topics but not posts.
